ABOUT

Hi! I’m Jules. And I live to create.

I’m in this profession to tell your story and create photos that give you all the feels. It brings me so much fulfillment. I try to put myself in your shoes throughout the process and want to make things easy and fun for you.

Outside of photography, (which is my whole life and heart), I love adventuring with my family, making music, relaxing with a “this water is so hot you might have a stroke” bath, & binging true crime (I usually listen while I edit weddings to balance those emotions, you know?)

I’m a whore for charcuterie, travel, sparkling wine, and the PNW.

I’m a teenager in my late thirties. Moira Rose from Schitt’s Creek is my spirit animal. I’m 5’2” but identify as 6’1” and I’m a sagittarius.

I am obsessed with love. Love makes life make sense. And I am SO honored to document love stories for a living.

If you MUST know more….

I managed a Shutterfly/Lifetouch portrait studio for 12 years and have photographed over 3,000 sessions of all different types. I trained countless photographers in their craft and worked everyday to break the mold of “boring”. But let’s be real, that job was more about learning to act like the most in sane version of myself to get real smiles. And I will carry that forever ;) I worked there while going to school for psychology, but deep down, knew my passion was in a creative field.

So here I am, all these years later, doing what I love. And I guarantee I will obsess over you and your love story. LET’S PARTY.

Why the name “Datura Photo”?

So, it came about in a super random way. Tori Amos has a song named “Datura” which is actually meant to show the feeling the plant Datura gives you when you ingest it as a psychedelic. Before learning all of the psychedelic effects of Datura, I loved listening to the song, because it felt like what my creative brain feels like. The first time I heard it I was taken aback, like… “this song feels like a TRIP.. but also, is this my brain converted to a song?!” (Apparently I feel like I’m high on Datura at all times? hahahahaha no, I don’t do drugs.) I decided “Datura Photo” was a fitting name for my photography business as I use the creative part of my brain to produce images. Hence, the name, Datura Photo.
